Frequently Asked Questions

What is Crowded Comics?

Crowded Comics is a technology and media startup company that is revolutionizing and democratizing the editorial cartoon by crowdsourcing poignant and funny captions and punch lines. Every caption can be voted on by our registered users, thereby putting the power of opinion into the hands of our users. For more information about our company, please see our Company Overview.

Why did you create Crowded Comics?

Based on recent polls, discontent with the American political landscape is near an all-time high, and we are seeing similar trends in other democracies across the globe. People on both the right and the left disagree on many issues, but they often share the common frustration of feeling that their voice is never heard. Crowded Comics is designed to help raise political and social engagement and give our users a platform for their voices and different opinions.

Is Crowded Comics part of a political organization?

No. Crowded Comics is an independent, nonpartisan private technology and media company. It is our goal to create an open forum where editorial cartoons are used as the centerpiece for increasing political and social engagement and discussion. Opinions and jokes from all positions of the political spectrum are welcome and encouraged.

Do your cartoons advocate a specific position?

Crowded Comics does not take a stance on any specific political issues. Our base cartoons are intended to reflect and interpret news headlines – and give users across the political spectrum (and from all sides of an issue) a platform for sharing and expressing their different opinions, captions, and punch lines. As users add captions and customize cartoons, they are welcome to advocate any position they choose, but these positions are those of our different users – not Crowded Comics.

I saw a political advertisement on your site. Does Crowded Comics support or endorse that organization/cause/candidate?

No. Advertisements that appear on our site are provided by third-parties. As noted in our Privacy Policy, the third-party advertising networks and servers that we use may tailor your advertising experience based on your past Internet viewing history. We do not review each advertisement, and Crowded Comics does not take political or commercial positions on any specific organization, cause, or candidate that may be reflected in an advertisement on our site.

I am not able to create a caption or comment. Why not?

In order to use certain site features, including voting or creating captions and comments, you must be a registered user, and you must be logged in. Registration is free. Please register and begin contributing!

What is the King?

Every registered user can up-vote or down-vote any caption that appears on our site. Although you can change your mind and change your vote, you can only cast one vote for every caption. At any point in time, the caption with the highest number of votes is crowned the King – because we’re that democratic! Great captions get more up-votes. However, if you want your caption to be crowned the King and featured on our home page, you can also share your cartoon with your friends -- and encourage them to vote for you.

What is localization?

We enable our users to customize cartoons with their own captions, and we’re partnering with news and media sources to localize the editorial cartoons that they feature. If your local newspaper syndicates our cartoons, they can feature local captions in their print edition, and you will be able to see the opinions – and punch lines – of people in your own community. Remember, all politics is local -- and now your opinions and captions can be too.

I am having problems viewing this site. What do I do?

My caption/comment was edited/removed? Why?

We want to keep Crowded Comics as open and democratic as possible. However, as both a business and a platform that serves many different people of different ages and diverse views, we need to maintain the quality and integrity of our products. At times, this may mean editing or removing content that we believe lowers the quality of Crowded Comics.

Also, per our Terms of Service, users are not allowed to submit certain types of content, including any libelous, defamatory, offensive, pornographic, abusive, or otherwise illegal material. Crowded Comics reserves the right to edit, modify, or remove any content at our sole discretion.

I wrote an awesome caption last week/month, but now I can’t find it. Where is it?

You can browse through all of your historic captions by visiting your public profile, which serves as the archive for all of the great (and not so great) captions that you submit. You can access your public profile by going to Your Account or by clicking on your username next to any caption/comment that you submit. If you don’t want to browse, but you remember the caption, enter it into our site search engine to find it.

I drew a great cartoon/caricature. Can I contribute it to Crowded Comics?

Yes! If you have already created a cartoon/caricature, it has not been published elsewhere, and you are interested in seeing it appear on our site, please first double check our Terms of Service as it relates to submissions. You can submit your cartoon to editor@crowdedcomics.com.

We receive a lot of submissions, and we try to respond to as many as possible – but we are not able to respond to or publish everything. Publication decisions are made at our sole discretion.
